    Hello everyone,

I have an issue with my DirectX which I'm not sure how to solve and would really appreciate your help with.

So about a year ago, all of the sudden, non of the games I tried playing where working.
Some would just crash, and some would say there is a disaply/directx issue.
I came here to the forum and posted about my issue.
There where a lot of suggestions of how to fix the issue and I've tried all of them (except one).

Since then, I've replaced the following parts on my machine:
    • Motherboard
    • CPU
    • RAM
    • Graphics Card
    Yet the problem still exists...
The only thing I have not tried from the suggestions in the previous post was to reinstall Windows.
So here is what I want to know:
Do you have any other suggestion that could help other then reinstalling Windows?
If I end up having to reinstall Windows, what is the best approach to doing so without losing any data?

    Thanks!

Have you tried installing the DirectX legacy package?

The newest version is often irrelevant because the developers are still using an older version of DirectX. You can install multiple versions of DirectX. Each one is a separate install.

If that doesn't work then you probably need to find out exactly what version of DirectX the game runs on and hunt down/install that version.

You can see DirectX information like this.
    1. From Start, type dxdiag in the Search box, and then press enter.
    2. Tap or click on dxdiag from the results.
    3. Check DirectX Version on the first page of the report in the System Information section.
Edit: P.S. I'm no expert in this area. Just going on what I have learned from the one or two DirectX issues I have had over the years.

    Thanks.

I did try installing the legacy package... did not help.
When running dxdiag I see that I have directX 12.
Is there a way to confirm that the old directX install from the legacy package are properly installed?

@Baglefighter - Have you tried going to the games official or unofficial forums and asking there? Or maybe try asking on their Twitter or Facebook page.

This is another issue with DirectX and end users. There are so many versions it is a impossible trying to figure out what to install and even if you are sure you have the right one it still probably will not work.

That was bad advice on my part. Well not bad just not constructive because another headache is you can't actually tell what versions are installed through that method or through Add/Remove programs. DX in normally distributed within Windows Update packages.

I hate to say it but a fresh install may be your next step. If you post a specific error message that may help us out a little but right now I know better than to put too much time into thinking about this.

    @satrow
    I've tried, same thing....

    @evilfantasy
This is an example from one game.

I don't think it worth going to an official game's website as it happened to many games all at the same time...
So unless they are all using the same DirectX, it does not look like a correct approach.

I'm surprised that these issues exist for so long and no one figured out a way to solve it.
Now I'm wondering if fresh install would even help.... does a fresh install come with all the old versions?

Yea that error message just leads down a rabbit hole of non-fixes but I'm sure you already know that. Sorry.

No but something between the game and DirectX is broken and I have no idea how else to try and fix it.

Failing to find a supported rendering device smacks of an issue whereby the base hardware/chipset drivers aren't providing the correct path and DX is getting 'lost', the 'board drivers (not 'utilities') need installing correctly, followed by the GPU drivers.

Basically, do a full uninstall/reinstall of all hardware drivers, beginning with the 'board chipset drivers, same routine as would be done after building a new PC from scratch. Don't install any bloatware like 'utilities', - drivers only.
