directx9 in any form will not install- microsoft logo?

Hey, i need some help. I have a HP pavilion 501n, running a forced nvidia g2, 1200mghz, 384mb, windows XP HE, 32 gig hard drive. I have tried to install directX 9.0 in its various forms (ie B & C) both from discs I have as well as the net. (both online and redistribution-full versions). Everytime I get passed the extraction and its starts to 'copying files,' my computer seems to go into a contimues loop for about 1/2 hour-but the result is always the same. I get a message stating "the software you are installing has not passed the test for microsoft logo compatibility, installation will not continue. Then it kicks me out. I have updated the drives to my hardware to the most current specs but i still get the same result. Also, and I do not know if this has anything to do with it, but I can not seem to do microsoft updates either- they seem to lock up. Everything else I load does fine, the computer has no other issues (dxdiag had no issues with the current directX 8.1) and seems to run fine--except no directX 9.0. Please help- I have tried getting help both from the microsoft groups and the HP, but no dice. Any help would be appreciated.

 

See if this solves your problem:

1. Start the Administrative Tools utility in Control Panel.

2. Double-click Services.

3. Right-click Cryptographic Services, and then click Properties.

4. Click Automatic for Startup type, and then click Start.

5. Press Apply and OK. Shutdown and restart Windows XP and retry your updates or directX install.

Let us know, there are some other solutions you might try.
