Alright guys, this is beyond my abilities so I need help.

Heres the problem. I have two hard drives, one for my OS and one for data, they are C: and D: respectively. C: (OS) is fine. The issue is with my D: drive.

D: is flagged as dirty, and chkdsk has been perpetually scheduled. I have run chkdsk on both volumes in normal, /f and /r extents. Nothing is ever found or fixed. I have run chkdsk in a command prompt as well, yet it never finds anything.

The hard drive seems to have slowed down considerably too. Sounds are distorted when anything puts load on the system. Installing anything takes about 30 minutes. Running chkdsk /f on the D: drive took approximately 36 hours. I believe the problems are all linked to the D: volume.

I suspect it may be dying a slow death. I am transferring all precious data off as I type this, but really hoping that someone can help me fix this.

    System Specs:

    AMD 64 X2 6400+
    ASUS M3A32 WiFi/AP
    ATI 3870
    2g Corsair 1066 RAM
    WD 250g HDD SATA 7200rpm <- D:
    WD 40g HDD SATA 7200 <- C:
    Antec NeoPower 550w PSU

1)Download a free trial or buy Window Washer

    2) keep defraging

    3) DELETE DELETE DELETE!!!

    4) Empty your recycle bin

note i wont advise accsessing your D: drive manually try windows washer instead

    Thanks for the fast response.

Forgot to mention that I cannot defrag the volume as it tells me that chkdsk has been scheduled.
Also, the D: drive is less than half full, so it shouldnt be a problem with free space.

OK, I fixed the dirty drive and slowdown in process speed by wiping and reformatting the drive. Now for the remaining problem...

My sound still crackles and slows down whenever I try to run a program and play sounds or watch a movie at the same time. No idea what causes this, but all my connections are fine.

    Any ideas? Anyone?

    Thanks!

Have a suggestion for your answer, although you probably won't like it because I can see that you have 2g of RAM.

However my sound crackles and slows when I have far too many things open or running on top of trying to playing music in particular, I know that this is a RAM issue for my system - it's struggling to keep up.

How many programs have you got running in the background when the sound crackles? Do they all need to be going, (have you got a browser open also?) try shutting a thing or two down and see if the crackling stops!

It can crackle and slow down with only one program running if it is a game.

I reset the timings and voltage on the ram in the bios (wasnt identified correctly according to the corsair website) and that helped things a little. Still encountering the problem though, and the interesting thing is that this machine worked fine when I built it a little under 2 months ago.
