Are you scanning? If so, Run OCR on the document, copy and paste into a new document.

If this is a photocopier issue, sorry I know of nothing to help. maybe someone else does...

I'm presuming that the paper you're copying is discolored and that discoloration shows up in the scanned image.

There are a number of Graphic Image Editing Programs available. The one I use is called the GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program). It's freeware from Sourceforge.

cipher, two things wrong with your kind suggestion , OCR doesn't work with music scores, and is expensive, but I do thank you for your time n trouble

Didn't know it was music scores, you didn't say that in your first post. ;)

OCR is not *terribly* expensive, there is even a free one, SimpleOCR out there for you...

In this case mdonah's suggestion to clean it up with Gimp (freeware) is probably your best option. A bit labor intensive, hopefully you don't have many pages...

We run into this issue with document imaging for court documents at one of our state agencies. All we can do, is play with the settings in the program after scanning, to try and clean it up the best that we can, so that the test will stand out.

Only other thing you can do, is to retype into a word processor, which is the last thing that most items that are in bad shape, end up being done, even though the original is still available for viewing.

there used to be a program that changed background (color) out side or inside of lines , of course that was 15-20 years ago, n then I slept since then
:confused clicked on a spot and color grew till it reached a "border"

Think you're referring to the "Fill" option found in many graphic/image editors.

See if your scanning software has the option to scan in "gray" or "grayscale" as apposed to scanning in "color" or "black and white". There may also be an option to "Reduce background noise" with a variable setting. These options might be buried some where under an "Advanced" option.

Could you answer pwillener's question please?

Canon's CapturePerfect software is what we used for scanning, when I worked in our state Child Support document imaging unit. Of course, that was also using Windows XP, to do the work, due to our state refuses to move to Windows 7, and keeps using every excuse out there why they cannot move into 7, even though all of the software they use (ie BlueZone, CapturePerfect, etc.), have already been updated by the manufacturers to run on 7.

This is the latest review on document management software for 2013 http://document-management-software-review.toptenreviews.com/ 2013 OCR review http://ocr-software-review.toptenreviews.com/ There is also kofax, which we also used in our imaging office.
