    Hi all,

Can I just have one account for my Windows 10? I don't need a "user" account and an "admin" account, I don't think I do, do I?? Maybe "no-account" LOL!!

I do live alone, no one ever uses my "stuff" because I don't have company! I think I should change my username here to hermit;)

Win 10 would have simply inherited the accounts you had in Win 7, no? Anyway, you have to at least one Admin account, same as Win 7, so if you only want the one account you will have to delete your user account, and if you do that you might possibly have problems accessing some of your own files.

That's how I lost some files then @Earthling . None are irreplaceable, but I noticed I had ended up with 3 accounts, so I deleted one. Then I realized I lost those files.

So you are saying I can have "just" one account, and to delete this other "user" account I just created this a.m. So I have to keep the Admin account, not the local user account. I think that's right. But I can name the admin account with my name if I want to?

I don't know why this is so confusing to me. When I lost the file folders, I didn't lose any of my programs (.exe) applications, just photos, documents. But I have all of those on my old laptop so I can replace them if I want. Actually, it's better sort of starting over. I save too many things I really don't need.

Ok, I will go into Start Menu, and click on "switch user" and make sure which I want to keep at this point, and get rid of the other. Hope that's right. I was reading about Win10 having some "hidden" admin account and you have to go through a couple of hoops to get rid of that. I'll show you the link before I do anything else;) I don't know if this is a default in Win 10 or not, the "built it" admin account. I just got pretty confused.

Yes you can, but I'm not advising you should. Unless you have good reason to be browsing etc using an admin account you should normally do so from a normal user account.
No and no. You cannot rename the admin account but you can create a new admin account, name it how you want, and then delete the present admin account. This is exactly how it has always been, even back to XP.
Yes it does have a hidden admin account, same as Win 7, and you should leave it alone unless you are advised here to enter it for some reason.

Your confusion denise has nothing at all to do with Win 10 - all this stuff has been the same for donkeys years.

I didn't learn anything about "accounts" user or admin, until now. I just logged in since I got my first pc, a hand-me-down from a friend. That was about 94 I think. I know I've had several OS's over the years, just had no need or desire to learn more then basics like email, or just surfing around:)

Now I have a lot more time on my hands;) Ok, I'm not going to mess with the Admin account, and just use my user account I made. One thing I remember that got me started on this subject, was that I was starting up this a.m. and I had deleted the password, did away with the windows password I don't need. The window came up though, on the other account. I evidently still have to login on that one. So I will just go back in and figure out how to get rid of these passwords to just login.

As long as I am in one account when I shutdown, I should still log into that same account right? Like it will stay as a default account. Like I said, I got confused, and I'm sure I screwed it up all by my self, not a Win10 issue.

Thanks much, I am ding dong today. Yesterday, after I did the Win 10 upgrade, a friend of mine and I took a hike, 7 miles, and there was some rough weather. I'm still worn out, so not fully recharged yet;) Thanks for your help;) Denise

It will always offer you both accounts when you boot up, there isn't any default. I was wrong about not being able to change your account name btw, not sure when this was changed but you can in Win 10.

It didn't do that in 7? It just started up with no "login" ever showing. Any way to skip that in 10?

Ok, I got it earthling:) The above link works in bypassing that login screen. I'll just ignore the one other account. I don't think it will interfere with anything now. I guess I'll find out;) ttyl, denise

If you just want the one account it will have to be the admin account and you would delete the standard user account. If you then remove the password on the admin account it will boot straight to the lock screen. However, as I said, this is not good practice and you are weakening your computer's security in the event you pick up a nasty. It's entirely up to you. I can't see any point at all in the article you linked to. Why keep an account you have hidden the login to and therefore cannot use?

the only point in the link I sent was the "how to" bypass using a password. I figured that out though as I mentioned. I'm fine now with just using the user account I made, and admin is still there if I need it. ty much:)
