the ISP told you to disable your antivirus? do you know why?

you shouldnt have to install any software to get DSL... and the only reason EVER to disable antivirus is during an installation since some Antivirus can mess with files being installed.

just curious, as usually the software they include with service is stuff you dont want on your system anyway! (like customized browser skins for IE)

They may do PPOE and if she doesn't have a router that supports PPOE then she'll have to use their software.

dont have a clue what you guys are talking about. the virus protection i use is antiVIR xp (personal edition) there is nothing anywhere that sez disable, disenable or turn off. the software came with the verizon package. i have now (long story - read about it in the lounge!) insalled the damm thing (just....its 7:30pm and i atarted at 10am !!) and it appears to be working just fine so what the f***. i would like to know though in case i hafta disable it for another reason (eg. more software.) and yes it downloaded loads of cr** that i dont need or want. i dont know which bits or how to remove them either ! (but thats another thread!) thanx for your replys. dont forget after reading all this rambling that i still need the answer :) much aloha

i did think about uninstalling it, but that seemed over the top to me. there must be a way of temporarily turning it off. in future though (unless someone here knows how) i will simply uninstall and reinstall.
thanx kaula for the reply. ps is that an hawaiian name? aloha laurie.

not so much an island as a rocky islet of the coast of Ni'ihau. (island at the 'top' of the chain). the word means a veriety of things, (as does most hawaiian) rope, cord, chain, etc. (the islet is called kaula coz 'she wears the ocean as a lei'. it also means prophet, seer, magician. either way your classmates got it wrong. aloha
