I spent a lot of time last night trying to find a way to disable that pesky, annoying, aggravating, obnoxious nag screen that Avira AntiVir shows you whenever it does anything at all. I finally found out how to do it in my XP install.

    1. Go to the Control Panel
    2. Open the Administrative tools and then open "Local Security Policy".
    3. Highlight Software Restriction Policy on the left side.
    4. Then right-click "additional rules" on the right side and pick "new path rule"
    5. Click the Browse button and find the avnotify.exe fle. It should be in the folder C:\Program Files\(Avira)\AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic\
    6. In the drop-down below, select "Disallowed", and then click your way back to the desktop via the Apply and OK buttons

I thought I'd post this here in case anyone is is as irritated with that nag screen as I am, and want to know how to get rid of it :)

What version of XP do you run? I have XP Home, and I can find nothing called "Local Security Policy" under Administrative Tools.
    I have Component Services
    Computer Management
    Data Sources
    Event Viewer
    Performance
    Services
    Where did you find that?

I have XP Pro on this laptop... hang on, and I'll try to rediscover the url to the page wher I found that.

    Edit:
Found it. Looks like you need to be in safe mode in XP home. :)

Thank you very much. That screen does get to be a bother.

I found the same fix a few months ago. My wife saw one of the nags and thought it was rogueware! LOL roflmao It was then that I decided to track down a 'fix'.

I have found that if you remove the allow for all users in the security section of properties for avnotify.exe that will also stop the nag screen.

i got rid of it this way.
    boot in safe mode F8
    open program files on c
    open avira folder
find avnotify.dll and open with notepad.
    delete the contents
    save file
    delete avnotify.exe
    delete ipmgui.exe
    reboot

i have updated since then and no nag so far.
u might could simply delete the avnotify.dll file. idk

This is over two years old and anyway it will replace those files when it updates to a new version. The other ways listed are permanent.
