I stream tunes on dialup, while signing paperwork, and other stuff, in the office.

When the mouse don't move for a while, MSN starts a timer, that shows on the MSN icon like a micro-clock, and which disappears when the mouse moves again. Presumably, this is for 'inactivity disconnect'.

How does one find that MSN file, to disable that function?

Most likey cause could be the Internet Connection settings having a disconnect if idle time set, the below should help,

    Windows 98/Me/NT/2000 settings

Click Start > Settings > Control Panel > Double-click Modems or Phones and Modems, In the box marked “The following modems are set up on this computer,” click your modem > Properties > Connection tab.

Click the check box next to “Disconnect a call if idle for more than number mins” to clear the check mark, or type a higher number in the “mins” box, and then click OK.

    Windows XP

In an IE Window click Tools > Internet Options > Connections > Highlight your Modem and click Settings > General tab > then In the “Idle time before hanging up” drop-down box, select a greater time or “never” > OK
