sorry if this question has been answered before. i could not find an answer using search.

have a gateway nv53 laptop running on 64 bit windows 7 home premium.

most of the letters on the keyboard do not work so am using an external. i have taken the keyboard apart and cleaned it. no go. am guessing at this point that the keys are just plain worn out. those that do work, however, tend to type over and over if even if lightly brushed. sometimes i swear all i have to do is look at them to get them started.

i have tried to disable the keyboard using instructions found on on the web. this consisted of changing windows update to ask before downloading and installing (which it was on already), uninstalling (as there is no disable option) the keyboards drivers in device manager, and changing the setting in the device installation settings to let me choose what to do with submenu change of never to install driver software from windows update.

i have also looked in bios and there is no keyboard setting there.

restart the computer and every single time the onboard keyboard is still working as the drivers were reinstalled. am i missing something? is there a way to disable this keyboard?

    thank you!

    thank you for the suggestion.

that particular download was for a 32 bit. i did find a 64 bit on the developers site. sadly when disabling the keyboard the program has the following error. ERROR - 536870351: Unknown Error

i am guessing that is an error generated by the program but can not find any information on it. suggestion?

    thanks

That error is displayed when DevManView cannot disable a device.
I think you're not going to be able to disable the keyboard unless you open the laptop and disconnect the keyboard - I'm not recommending this.
