disable messenger zip

Last night, after successfully networking my 2 pc's (with much help), Outlook returned to signing into messenger automatically, even thought it's not set to and I had sorted this once before. I downloaded and ran the disable messenger zip that I found here and thought it was all ok. As that was the only thing I done after the networking, I'm assuming it's the cause of my problems.

When I next returned to my pc, I couldn't get it to run any program. I'd click on the short cut, and wait, and wait, and wait..... nothing; the same when i tried to system restore. When I tried to turn off the pc, I had several 'not responding' boxes come up, one being DDE window server, another hpsys.exe (or something). Sorry, but i'm not pc literate. I'm running WinXP home edition, including sp2, on a HP Pavilion with 256 ram.

Any ideas what happened? Did I do someting?

    Many thanks for any input.

Are you referring to AOL messenger? If so, go to "My AIM" at the top of your buddy list. Choose "Edit Options", then "edit preferences. On the left, go to "Sign On/Sign Off". In the Sign On section, uncheck "Start AIM when Windows starts". See if this helps. I had the same thing happening and this fixed me right up. Hope it works for you, too! :)

Thanks for responding mommy, but it's not aol messenger, but windows messenger....

Bloomin networking won't work either now....

Maybe i'm one of those that should put the pc back in the box and send it back being 'too stupid to own a pc' ;)

    blondemommy,
The S3 graphics issue mentioned in the post concerns your video chip drivers. Go to their web site, and download the latest drivers for your motherboard/chipset. This should cure the errors that you are seeing! :)

Thanks, Novice! I started to download it the first time it happened but wasn't sure if it was safe or not. I guess I'm paranoid about downloading stuff that I don't know about.....and like I said, I have NO CLUE what that S3 graphics thing is all about. But since YOU said to do it, I'll do it with peace of mind! Have a great night, Novice! :)
