I am unable to use the F1 key in one of my programs because it's designated by Windows. How can I disable it? Thanks! Gini

Hi fst tik, i think people are going to need a few more details about your set-up before anyone is able to help you properly...

    To name a few....

    Which program is it affecting?

    Which OS are you using?

    Laptop or Desktop?

    Which make/model?

Also, Have you checked for any other programs that may be running in the back ground at the time and could be causing this?

Try switching off all un-needed programs & app's that are running and try then.

What does it do when clicked?
I run windows on quite a few computers and the F1 key hasn't been designated by windows.
If I hold down the Fn key and click F1, on two notebooks, I can get something to happen.

    plodr & ~Q~:

I use WordPerfect 5.0 - 12.0, depending on the age of the document. Unfortunately, every now & then I have to revert back to 5.0, which is a DOS program, but has worked perfectly with XP Pro (unbelievable, I know), on my laptop, Lenovo T60 (100 GB) & I've been doing this for several years with no problem until now.

5.0 is the only program running. All of a sudden, it keeps giving me a "no room on backup drive" message. There's app. 6GB available. I can change the location of the backup to an external hard drive by using Shift+F1, however, Windows overrides & pops up a Google search screen instead, so I can't change the backup location. The Fn key is of no help.

When the "warning" message pops up on the bottom, if I'm inserting info, it will skip 2 letters of the word & pause (to exit the message).

I could import the 5.0 document into 12.0, but in the past when I've tried to do this, it changes the formatting, which is a big problem!

So, my dilemma seems to be how to change the backup location, I guess, or delete the 5-min. automatic backup altogether, but I can't get to the backup setup location except via Shift+F1.

    Any advice?

    Thx, Gini

I found this for the shift + F1
So since windows uses this and v5 came before windows, I'm not sure you have a way out of this.
My earliest experience with WP is v 6.1, in windows and that was maybe 15 years ago! My quick reference guide says to press ctrl +s to save, which works in every version, as far as I'm aware. Then type a filename in the filename text box (does this come up for you?) and indicate a path, if necessary. Can you at that point put the path to D:\The current directory\The name of the file?
Where D would be your external drive, The current directory would be something like WP5 Files and The name of the file would be the file you are working on.

Not that it is very helpful to you in v5 but in v6.1 F3 is save as and shift+F3 is save. Do those keys do any good for you?

No help :( I have to figure out how to get to Setup, which is Shift F1 so I can change the location of Backup. Otherwise, the warning will keep showing up every 5 min. Grrrrr!

Im at a bit of a loss with this one im a afraid, the best i can think of is to re-download & re-install the programs affected, try installing in different orders and see if that makes any difference, try it on another computer if you can, this is however just a generic stab in the dark with a common mystery fix procedure :)

btw, i would try the scenario out myself for you but i am quite busy :(
