Disabling Google Now

Google Now is an app that's somewhat built into the android operating system and shows you a feed of links that you might be interested in and I think it also reads your emails and gives you reminders based off of what is has read. I think it can also be set to listen for voice commands. That's a quick rundown as I know it's tough to keep all apps straight in your head.

I am trying to turn off this app.
I looked at these instructions:

But, I am using android 4.4.4 and I can't follow the first step. The instructions say to open the app and then click on the 3 dots to open up some sort of menu. I don't see the 3 dots & I tried all 3 menus that I do see and none of them have the option to turn off the app.

I was also trying to capture a screen shot for you guys by following these instructions:

But, when I hold down the power button and the volume down button that just brings up and changes the volume control. It doesn't seem to be moving in the direction of taking a screen shot.

Also, sorry if I am posting this in the wrong place. I first looked for an android section of Google support communities. But, I didn't find anything.
