Disabling Internet Explorer

It is not my default browser. When I use CCleaner, IE is the one with the most items listed.

How can I disable it? Do I dare delete it? I don't trust it and don't use it.

Thanks. Using Vista but I Googled it and found a way.

I believe the procedure is the same for Windows Vista. By the way, the procedure does not actually remove all Internet Explorer program files and, besides, that should not be attempted anyway because IE is rather deeply embedded in Windows. So, just going through the "uninstall" steps as explained on that website should be sufficient to help you forget about IE; it will remove all shortcuts and icons linking to it and you'll be unaware of any presence of IE components that might be embedded in Windows.

Thanks. I figured removing it would cause problems but I managed to disable it.

In several places, I read that it was dangerous to let it sit there and be active because it was a way bad things could get in.

You just fell for the propaganda Lavender - IE9 is every bit as safe as any other browser. But disabling it doesn't do any harm either, it's just pointless.

Previous to Win 7, you needed IE to get all those windows security patches. Be careful because if you disable IE in Vista, you might find that you now have a major headache with windows update working.

I don't have experience with Vista and do not have it installed on any of the computers here so I can't test it to see if update would break if IE is disabled.

I'd make a restore point before you start doing this. Reboot. Disable IE. Reboot then see if windows update works. If not, restore what you previously had.

That's quite possible because I know nothing about technological things.

I haven't examined the new IE. It may have incognito browsing which I need because I am being cyber stalked. I can't even use my email to contact friends.

Thanks. I tested Windows Update and it downloaded an update for MSE. I'll keep checking to see if other updates arrive okay.

When I say I 'disabled' what I should have said is that I removed the tick that allowed me to access IE. I'm using Chrome as my default in incognito mode. I'm trusting that it does what it says.
