Disabling Motherboard Splashscreen

    Hi,

When I boot up, my motherboard's boot screen appears for about 15 seconds before my computer will continue to boot up. Is there a way to disable it so I can just boot to Windows?

Do you see signs of RAM being counted and other things happening? If not, the computer might be running through checks and things before starting up and disabling the motherboard boot screen won't change the speed of boot up, only let you see what the computer is doing during that time.

If there is a message saying to press this or that to get into Setup, press the button mentioned and you may be able to find the place to change that. A quick jog to my memory by a quick Google search suggests that you're looking for the POST setting or possibly something to do with quiet boot. If you want to see what is happening, you want it to show POST and/or not quiet boot.

P.S. Be very careful not to change anything else in there unless you REALLY know what it's about. And read all messages VERY carefully to be sure you understand them before saving or exiting.

Some motherboards have a 'switch' in the BIOS setup for enabling or disabling the splash screen; most don't. Most boards also have an enable or disable quick boot which should be enabled. Other than that, there's not alot you can do to speed that part of the boot process. Make sure your hard drive is set as the first boot device; that will shave about 3 seconds off the boot times.

It doesn't shows signs of anything happening. It just waits 15 seconds and then goes to the Post screen where I have to press F1 to go to Windows. If I disable my floppy drive, it doesn't go to the Post screen, it just continues to Windows. I've searched through BIOS/CMOS for enable or disable quick boot, quiet boot or disabling the splash screen. My last computer just went to the Windows screen without a splash screen, but it was a different motherboard.

Pressing F1 is usually to continue because it found a problem. Such as the infamous "Keyboard missing. Press F1 to continue" error.

Could something not be working properly?

Yes, my floppy drive, but I don't want to bring it into this thread. I Googled it but I can't find a way to disable it. I was hoping someone here would know how.

Maybe ask the manufacturer of the PC, and the manufacturer of the motherboard, to see if they can offer a solution?

Someone else must have complained also, you would think.

Since I'm the manufacturer of the pc, I'm not a good person to ask and T-Force is the manufacturer of the motherboard. . . it's their splash screen I want to remove. I don't think they want it removed since they somehow hid the setting for it.

Ask them anyhow, it won't hurt. If they get enough complaints they may offer an option eventually. Bazza

There are some 3rd party programs available that will allow you to create your own POST/splash screen and integrate it into the BIOS so you'll essentially have your own 'custom' screen come up when you power up the PC. I don't remember the names of these programs off the top of my head (it's been a couple of years), but I'll check into it and post some links if/when I find 'em....

Anyway- I did some research; I didn't really find exactly what I was looking for, but here's some links that you may find interesting if you (or anyone reading this) is into creating a custom BIOS/POST splash screen:

Sadly many motherboard makers add splash screens to their hardware/bios, while you can envoke Quick/Rapid boot modes which skip past many self tests the BIOS does, the boot screen is one that is hardwired and wont go in many if not all cases, you could change it for another screen of your choosing but the boot time it shows for will stay the same.

I've found the best boards for rapid booting are ASUS, GIGABYTE and Intel.. maybe others but these I know boot quickly.

Sadly upshot is you wont loose the 15sec hang for the splash screen... its hardware and part of mobo, unless you change mobo to one with a quick/rapid boot or no splash screen, I knwo my ASUS gives me a 5sec splash screen with quickboot enabled but it boots to windows GUI in 30secs +/- 5

I am not under the delusion that disabling the Motherboard (Gigabyte) will speed things up. I just want to be able to see the normal process as it goes by and the splashscreen makes that impossible. I see lots of potential in Advanced BIOS options but since I am not comfortable working with the BIOS I don't know what to do. I always want the CDROM option to precede the HDD. To do otherwise courts disaster. Thus quickboot is out. Several options look promising, but I get cold feet when that N starts flashing on and off. All I want to do is get rid of that splashscreen - forget speed. GerryR

    Hi GerryR

What Gigabyte motherboard do you have make and model? What Windows version are you using OS + Service Pack?

No one has stated disabling the motherboard will speed things up as you need the motherboard, so don't know where you gained that from. The disabling of the CDROM in the boot order does not court "disaster" it juts allows a slightly speedier boot as the BIOS does not need to poll that device.

What is the "N" flashing as I have not seen that with a Gigabyte board or Windows?

What version Gigabyte motherboard do you have as that will allow us to see what options you have to disable if possible the splashscreen of the BIOS.
