    Hey guys,

I'm currently trying to install a version of Windows XP Home on my (newish) Dell Inspiron 1750. The laptop currently has Windows 7 Home Premium installed and I want to be able to dual boot both OS on the machine. I used the Disk Manager in Windows 7 to create a new partition and format it to NTFS. However when I try to install XP on the partition, an error is thrown. After some research I found that this is because Windows XP installation disk does not have the necessary drivers to recognise newer SATA hard drives.

One possible solution that has been suggested on the interweb is disabling SATA in the BIOS of the machine. However when, I go to do this, the BIOS gives me a warning that disabling this 'may' stop my OS from loading and will require a re-install. My question is this, if I disable SATA in the BIOS, will this stop my Windows 7 installation from booting?

    Many thanks,
    Simon

Grab the SATA drivers. These need to be installed before XP is attempted to be installed.
If Dell includes a driver disk, have a look the driver might be on there.

Your probably going to have to slipstreme these drivers

If you install XP after win 7 you'll need to repair the boot loader, this can be done within XP using Easy BCD

    Cheers for the replies guys.
Yeah I ended up having to slipstream the drivers, and having to repair the bootloader as suggested using EasyBCD.

    Cheers :-D
