Disabling threads on laptop dual core processor

I have an ASUS K53SV and I want to disable two threads, so it will only have one thread per core. Is there any way I can do this?

 

That should be a BIOS setting.

 

It's a crippled laptop BIOS, not much there other than boot order and date/time settings.

Perhaps there is a BIOS replacement? Although, I would be a bit wary of installing it, but if it gives me overclocking/underclocking and thread disabling options then I might consider it.

The reason I want to do this in the first place, is because I am running a Gamecube emulator (Dolphin) and it only takes advantage of two cores. My fear is that it is seeing two threads from one core as two cores, and thus only using one core overall.

 

Be wary about upgrading the BIOS unless you know that there's a fix in it that would help you - bad flashes make doorstops.

 

You didn't specify your OS so i'm just assuming windows here.

Not sure how effective it is but you can control how many processors a process uses in windows with the set affinity option in task manager.

Open Task Manager (ctrl+shift+esc)
right-click the process and click set affinity
uncheck the checkboxes for the processor/threads you do not wish to use.
click ok.

 

Sorry, I forgot to say I'm running Windows 7. I'll try the affinity setting and see if it does anything for me.
