About 3 months ago I recorded alot of my 'Half-Life' add-ons to DVD (non-rewritable) so I re-installed the game, thinking I'd replay some of the add-ons and I was able to retreive 3 of them. I exited the DVD. When I came back to the DVD to install some more, they were no longer there! Actually, they are there, but they just don't show up anymore. How can I 'get 'em back' to being visible again? Any suggestions would be appreicated....Thanks!!

Possibly a winrar file, and maybe you uninstalled winrar? ed

Actually Tunered, there where 87 files on that DVD. Granted, some where Winrar, but most were WinZip files. With the DVD in the drive, I click on it and there's nothing there. Yet, when I check the properties it shows that the DVD is over 3\4 full, about 3 gigs worth! Thanks for the reply, I do appreicate it!;)

Thanks Ibbonkers, but I've tried that too! I was thinking that maybe, for some unknown reason, it's a defective DVD. Isn't there a program that can get data from a 'damaged' DVD, or CD? I'm just on the assumption that the DVD may be defective because all my other ones work.

just for giggles try taking it to another pc and see if it sees it. If it doesnt Id say its a bad dvd

Okay, I 'giggled' it out to my son's PC and it didn't work there either:-D However, I got everything back!! Let me see if I can explain how I did it. My burning software is 'CDBurnerXP,' a freebie from MGs. Anyhow, I opened up the software, with the DVD in the tray, and went to 'import' and selected 'import session 1' (I had 5 sessions total). Once that finished I did the same with sessions 2 thru 5 and when it finished everything was back where it should be...ALL my add-ons came back from wherever they were!! I figured it was already screwed up so I experimented and by sheer dumb luck I experimented with the right thing!! Man, talk about falling into a pile of :crap and come out smelling like a rose!!:-D

Thanks for all the suggestions, I DO appreicate it;)

Hi Stubby, just curious as you were talking about burning sessions. So do you mean you left the disc open and and added files to it over time? Or did you burn the whole disc at once?

Hey Sach2! I left the disc open so I could burn more on to it later on. All total it was 5 sessions. Usually, I don't have enough data to fill up a 4+gig DVD at one time so I just leave it open and when, or if, a new add-on is released I can just add it to the disc. Once this disc is totally filled then I'll select the option to close it.

    Thanks for the reply. :)

Usually, if you use the same PC, same burner and have the same software installed you can recover a multi-session disc. It sounded like that was your situation so I couldn't give you any additional help.

I have lost data, by not closing CDs or closing them but later finding them useless on another computer, in the past and gave up on multi-session discs long ago. Not worth the hassle in my opinion. :mad

CDburnerXP is a reliable program. I would humbly suggest collecting files on your HD until you have enough grouped together to burn a data disc-at-once. Blank DVDs are fairly cheap on sale and splurging on writing one at half capacity becomes well worth it, the first time you realize you can't get to your data on a hard to read disc. :)

Trust me, after this little foray, there will be no more multi-sessions! Like you said, it's not worth the hassle. The data that I burned could very easily been replaced if I would have had too, but if it would have been, say, our vacation photos of my son and I did this, well my wife would have killed me, or at least made me wish I was dead!!:-D I don't do that much recording, but I do appreicate your sound advice! Who said you can't 'teach an old dog new tricks!':confused Again, THANKS!!
