    Hi,
I have been cataloging all my removeable media discs with files on for years with AdvancedDiscCatalog, but they have ceased developing it, it keeps locking up.
The trouble is with using one man band progs is they can decide to stop and you have to recatalog hundreds of discs all over again.

WinCatalog is slow at 4.5 secs per file, it does make thumbnails of raster images which is good, you see what a file is before having to try and find the disc. However if the screen save kicks in then it fails, white screen and 40 mins of waiting is wasted. It doesnt display how long there is to run.

Disk Explorer Professional is twice as fast BUT also rejected quite a few photoshop CR2 files when WinCatalog did them all.

Extensis Portfolio only deals with raster images. Again locks up on a large dvd.

Cathy is fast but I cant even figure out how to get it to scan my first disc ! No tech support, website most odd. No thumbnails though and thumbs are so useful.

WhereIsIt scanned first disc in a second, doesnt create thumbnails. Second disc it took 17 mins to do 25% (222 files) of a dvd-r HORRENDOUSLY SLOW and no means of turning off the filters in one go incase that would speed things up.
Why have all these filters anyway, if it doesnt make thumbs why bother.
ADC just scanned the file names.
it was ploughing through .3dm files for ages, so I had to abort it with Troubleshooting keep popping up, yet WinCatalog managed that disc.

There is just nothing out there that will scan fast a disc, create thumbs and not crash when a screen save kicks in.

Any one know of one that does work ?

Its the year 2014 and Cataloging softwares are still useless. At the time ADC was the only decent one and nothing has improved.

    Basic fundamental useful prog requirement.

Again with millions of users with usb sticks, usb HDs etc etc, surely someone can make a cataloging software that works ?

If the screensaver is the only real issue with WinCatalog why not turn it off? It doesn't serve any useful purpose on modern monitors other than to save a little power.

    Hi Jimspoon,
I am now desperate to find something...80 or more DAM softwares but almost all are cloud usage and subs per month. Both of which I hate.
looking at those , only AbeMeda displays images as large thumbnails, I must have it display images as thumbs and also launch a selected inage full sreen, be able to create keyword lists such as Towns, Animals, cars etc, and allocated such and search on such.
However AbeMeda thumbs are not a suitable size at 55x85 or 5x8 and images when opened were soft, and testing showed other issues such as keyword panel vanished if one clicked anywhere after launching it and no ability to create the custom lists above.
There is no decent cataloging software that is affordable and allows for custom fields, PhotoSupreme does BUT cannot search on a file if the word being searched on is abutted to a previous word such as ThisWordingIsAbutted and that kills its use.
