disc cleanup

Win xp, home, sp3
The tab next to disc cleanup which says 'more options' has some features like removing components not used and programs not used.
Is it advisable to run these?

I would only touch these if you were confident in what you were removing.

The 'Installed Programs' button launches 'Add/Remove Programs' which will list exactly that; installed programs. I don't know what's installed, or what you want to keep.

The 'Windows Components' button launches a sub-window of 'Add/Remove Programs' where programs bundled with Windows can be removed. Personally, I don't use Windows Explorer, or the inbuilt Windows Messenger, and always remove them, but again, this depends on what you use.

'System Restore' is a handy feature if you ever hit a snag. Deleting the files will get you some space, but you will not be able to restore if you have a problem (at least, until some restore points are made).

I used tune up utilities for this..

 

I'll look up tune up utilities but from what I can see, these tasks are something you can do yourself, quickly, and safely as necessary.
