Having difficulty with drive f cd rom. microsoft autoroute has been in disc drive for some time. suddenly message appears saying

"a removable device or network share cannot be found. The CD is not in the drive or the installation of this application is corrupt. Make sure the drive you installed from is attached, the CD is in thew drive, your network is connected, or run Setup again from it's installed location."

The CD is in the drive and the drive shows up as empty in 'My computer'. The disc drive wont open manually or using the eject function.

    Any help much appreciated.

splitt3r You are now the victim of a drive by title change

there is probbaly a small hole on the front of the cd drive, this is the emergency eject button. just stick something small in there like a needle or toothpick. also try checking the connections in the back and installing that latest drivers for the CD drive.

First of all, have you tried to eject the drive when just starting up - I have seen this work on this sort of problem.
Autofix , an autoplay repair wizard, from microsoft helps check, and fix dvd, and cd drives.
There was also a fix for a microsoft download that caused problems, wiith dvd/cd drives, again from MicrosoftIt is worth you going to the Microsoft side, and downloading these.

I have also had this problem, the solutions above may work for you. If not, I had to replace my IDE 40-conductor cable with an IDE 80-conductor cable. If you are using a newer driver (newer meaning purchased within the last couple years) and you're using an old IDE cable it may not be compatible with the new drive. If this makes absolutely no sence, and none of the above solutions help, please feel free to repost for more answers.
