disc password recovery

Does anyone know how to retrieve a password used with 'Disc Password Protection' software. I entered a password wrongly (may be out by just one letter or number) and now can't access my SATA usb combo. Customer Support at 'Disc Password Protection' tell me it is lost forever, but I find it hard to just throw out a 1tb piece of storage.

Can anyone help with suggestions. I've tried a few 'password recovery' programmes without success.

You can try accessing offline using a linux distro like Puppy but I doubt you would have success viewing your data.

Probably the best you can do is to zero out the drive and lose all of the data on it. Repartition and format. Did you use this program to encrypt your boot drive also?

Hi tgell, tried to format and zero out but disc is hidden by the protection. Cannot access something that can't be seen.......that's the problem! All of the password recovery programmes have the same problem. Thanks anyway.....

If the minitools partition recovery does not see the disc, you are going to have to try to do it offline. First, see if GpartedLiveCD can see the drive. If it does then delete the partitions and reformat. Just make sure you are working on the USB drive as the naming conventions are different. I linked directly to Gparted because the version is a later one than on MajorGeeks. Edit. You are going to have to burn the iso with either Imgburn or another software that can handle bootable iso images.

The next option would be to attach the SATA drive directly to the computer with a SATA cable and access it directly through the SATA port. This probably has the highest chance of working. Again be very careful of the drive you are working on. You do not want to erase your system drive.

Thanks tgell....The mini power tool has recognised the sata but it is unclear at the moment whether it can retrieve the data. If it can then I'll move the data first and try what you have suggested to recover the disc for future use.........Thanks so much..............

Hi tgell...........Just thought to let you know that I managed to retrieve a lot of data with the power data recovery tool...some of the jpeg and mpeg files won't open, but not too worried. Haven't managed to figure out how to recover the SATA for re-use but if I do I'll report to all

    Cheers

Hi nullptr. to say thanks...I managed to retrieve much of the hidden data with the full data recovery tool. Yet to recover the use of the SATA but am looking at tgell's idea of attaching direct with a SATA cable.........will let you know..........

to nullptr and tgell........success.......as well as saving most of the data, I have now got my 1tb SATA back. Went to buy a SATA cable from a hardware buff friend of mine....he took it into his workshop and 15 mins later had re-formatted and is well. Saved me the cost of a new 1tb disc..............

    THANKS ALL.........................

Good to know you got most of your data back intact. But, it also shows you the worth of your password protection program.

Absolutely.............chose it because it protected the door to the folder rather than encrypting the individual files.....makes a mockery now.......
