okay so heres the setup in my house

    highspeed internet
    modem and router
    all are connected to router

    2 hard wire mainly sometimes a 3rd
    1 wireless mainly sometimes a 2nd

i am on hardwire all the time and my brother is on wireless all the time

i play an online game called Star Sonata and im also generally on skype and it displays your internet connection strength when your in a call so thats how i moniter my strength

so basically everyone except my brother can be online wireless or hardwire and i dont get any lag, usually 5 bars on skype

however as soon as my brother goes on wireless no matter what hes doing wether it be downloading or normally just msn my internet drops to 2 bars and i get disconnected about ever 2-5 mins from my game its killer

ive tried port forwarding skype and my game no luck ive contacted an admin from the game and even he cant understand why i lag so bad, i did i ping test and the admin says that everything should be fine.

Basically the only way i dont lagg is if my brothers laptop is shut off and i cant stand it

please someone tell me theres some way to fix this because im going crazy

This sounds as though your router is configured to give wireless devices priority in Quality of Service. Have a look in your router's manual (may be a better one on line) and see how you can adjust QoS.

Try looking online for the manual.

    No, QoS Should be disabled.

I am glad this has fixed it for you. I was actually going to suggest turning QoS off if it was previously on, or modifying it to allow equal weight to both wired and wireless devices.

Please note that QoS may limit download speed of some items more than others so explore all options according to your manual.

it hasent seem to have effected my download speed

i also ran a program called TCPOptimzer and i set optimal settings that may have been what fixed it

im not sure what to ser the QoS to i put it to 512k tho

    thanks for the help mate

The QoS should be able to be changed depending on what type of traffic is coming through, although some routers may not have the functionality to do this through the web interface.

The QoS speed in your case is (I assume) referring to the speed allocated to each computer connecting to the router trying to get to the internet. Therefore you should set this to your maximum internet speed divided by the maximum number of users on the internet, or set it to your max internet speed and this should force it to share equally.

max internet speed as in do a speed test and my download speed divided by number of connections?

Yes, although the official standard, if I just correct myself here, is minimum average speed (generally taken over a set period (at least a month) and contstantly adjusted) divided by the maximum number of users expected to be using the connection at that time, minus about 10% or so, depending on how inaccurate the max number of users is.

I recommend you just set QoS to whatever your max advertised line speed is, as 512Kb/s is half a megabit.
