    Hello.

I'm having a problem with my Disk Defragmenter. My OS is Windows XP.

When I went to Defrag, it would Analyze 40% and then a window pops up saying:

    Code:
Deframentation of (C:) has been aborted due to
inconsistencies that were detected in the filesystem.
Please run CHKDSK or SCANDISK on (C:) to repair these
inconsistencies, then run Disk Defragmenter again.
So I ran CHKDSK in the Command Prompt and here is what it did.

    Code:
    chkdsk c:
The type of the file system is NTFS.

    WARNING! F parameter not specified.
    Running CHKDSK in read-only mode.

CHKDSK is verifying files (stage 1 of 3)...
    File verification completed.
CHKDSK is verifying indexes (stage 2 of 3)...
    Index verification completed.
    CHKDSK is recovering lost files.
CHKDSK is verifying security descriptors (stage 3 of
    3)...
    Security descriptor verification completed.
CHKDSK discovered free space marked as allocated in
    the
    master file table (MFT) bitmap.
Correcting errors in the Volume Bitmap.
Windows found problems with the file system.
Run CHKDSK with the /F (fix) option to correct these.

     244187968 KB total disk space.
      39808408 KB in 99281 files.
         31024 KB in 4915 indexes.
             0 KB in bad sectors.
178608 KB in use by the system.
65536 KB occupied by the log file.
     204169928 KB available on disk.

4096 bytes in each allocation unit.
61046992 total allocation units on disk.
51042482 allocation units available on disk.
I tried the Disk Defragmenter again, and that window popped up again. So I tried to get into Scandisk... but I can't even find Scandisk. I tried "scandisk c:" in the cmd prompt, did a Search for Scandisk, checked Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools and don't see a Scandisk.

    :(

CHKDSK is asking you to run it with the /F option so it can correct errors.
You will need to do this before you can run a defrag.
    Regards, Blueheeler.

    Thanks for replying.
What do I type into the Command Prompt?

Yep or you can go to "mycomputer", right click on the drive and click on properties. Then click on tools tab and then the check now button on error checking. Then reboot and chkdsk will run before booting into windoze.
