Disk Space – “acer” - 2016.03.12

The C Drive, which is of 99.9 GB capacity, has only 2.33 GB free. Occasionally this space is not adequate to update the AVG Antivirus. I have only installed essential software. I ran the Malware Scans to exclude any malware and removed them.

Still the disk space had not increased; please advice on how to get more free space. CCleaner and Disk cleaner were also run but did not clean up a lot of space.

If all your C drive contains is the Operating System and program files, then that seems a lot of space taken up. Use this program to see exactly what is taking up the space:

Also if you need to post here about it please tell us exactly what Operating System, version (eg Home, Pro, Enterprise etc), service pack installed if any, and whether it s 32bit or 64bit.

EDIT: I have only just noticed that you still have an unfinished thread in the malware forum. It is probably best to wait until you have a complete 'all clear' there before you pursue this software issue.

 

After running the TreeSize Free 3.4.5, almost 75 GB were due to System Volume Information Folders.


I flushed all the Restore points and created a new Restore Point and reduced the Disk space allocated for System Restore from 100 GB (100%) to 90%.


I now have 75 GB Free and the problem was solved.

To avoid a repetition I'd advise reducing the SVI space from 90% to 10% (10GB)

 

Done. It was a learning experience. I reduced the SVI space to 1% in the "database" computer also which was also slow.
