Diskette drive 0 seek failure

when i turn on the computer i get an error called diskette drive 0 seek failure, this is a school computer and i don't know what has been done to it previously by someone else. it has a phoenix ROM BIOS PLUS Version 1.10 A02. any suggestions as to what is causing this error? i can't even enter the BIOS, if i try to enter setup it just gives me the same error as if i was to boot normally, any suggestions? is it possibly the battery?

basically check all the connections for the floppy drive (cable backwards, etc)

 

does the light on the drive come on and stay on? If it does then the cable is backward. If you don't get any lights check the power cable. If everythings connected then switch FDD cables. then replace the drive.
Iyt's also possible that the FDD controller on the board is defect. If that is the case then disable it in the bios and the machine just won't have a floppy drive without a new mainboard.

 

yes but you see all of the school computers have disabled floppy drives, i dunno if they dissconnected them or just disabled, so the drive is no help to me, oh well no biggie i'll move my seat for a few days
