Ok, here's a new one for me.

Apparently I've fat-fingered something, and it's caused my (right) side and bottom scroll bars to sort of "take a walk" ... they've both been pushed-off to the very edges of the screen (bottom scroller buried behind the taskbar)so as to not be very functional. I mean, I can see them, but it's tough trying to get the mouse-pointer on them to use.

Also, web-pages are sort of "blown-up", so that the usual "Login" and "Sign-in" buttons are pushed-off to the side so much that I have to click the "Zoom Out" feature several times in my Firefox Toolbar just to see (utilize) them.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks,

    On XP, try:

    Close Firefox

    Start>Run>type in %appdata%

Go in Mozilla>Firefox>Profiles>#####.default folder and delete the file localstore.rdf.

    Restart FF.

Ok, thank you for the reply, however ...

First, when I copy/paste "*%appdata%*" into the run command, it returns an error message: "Windows cannot find '*C:\Documents ..." - I don't really understand that.

Secondly, unfortunately, it seems I am forever "behind the curve" whenever someone says; "go" (or "go in"/"go to" ... ), I become slightly disoriented.

I went to: My Computer>Local Disc/C:>Program Files>Mozilla Firefox>... then, when I get there, not sure - EXACTLY - where to go next (I don't have a folder there named "Profiles"), but I must say that I've got duplicates of things there such as "Chrome(2)", "Components(2)", "Defaults(2)", "Dictionaries(2)", etc., even something named "greprefs(2)" ... the same with other (though not all) of the folders there - and even TRIPlicates of one ("SearchPlugIns[3]).

I can (should) eliminate the duplicates (and triplicate) - correct? And should I perhaps delete the originals instead of the ones named "2" & "3" (2 & 3 are probably the Updated folders - correct?).

Thanks, and sorry for the trouble

    No, not C:>Program Files>Mozilla.

    Use Start button.
    Run
type in %appdata% hit ok [a window will open]
then Mozilla Folder then Firefox folder then Profiles Folder then ##random numbers##.default folder then delete the localstore.rdf

**if you don't have extensions showing the file will just be named localstore

Ok thanks, but I am using Start (button)>Run>%appdata% - but then it returns the error message ("Windows cannot find *C:\Documents...)

The C:>Program Files>Mozilla was the second part of the instruction(s) that I was following ...

    Thanks again ...

    Open My Computer
    Click on Tools
    Folder Options
On the View tab Check box "Show Hidden Files" and uncheck box "Hide System Files" [while your at it uncheck "Hide extensions for known File types"]
Now start at C: drive icon and go to the following folders C: > Documents and Settings>yourusername>Application Data>Mozilla>FireFox>Profiles>####.default and delete localstore.rdf.

I'm not sure what the localstoresafe.rdf is, it may have to do with safemode.

I don't have one and have never seen it. I would just delete the localstore.rdf for now [though I think there would be no harm in deleting both].

Localstore.rdf will be recreated fresh when you restart FF and should resolve the original problem.

Thank you again very much. yeah, I think the "Safe" one is resultant from some "brain-storm" idea I must have had at some point, thinking that if all else failed (in other words, if I had REALLY screwed something up, that I'd have some sort of fail-SAFE or back-up or something.

I'm dangerous-enough on these machines WITH help - let alone WITHOUT it, and when I attempt to "fly solo". Man ... then I am REALLY prone to OPERATOR ERROR(S)!!!

I suppose I'll attempt to live dangerously, and delete them both. Maybe that will help clear-up some of the other problems I seem to have rather re-currently.

    Thanks!

    Hi grc123,

I hope this worked for you. If you are done in that folder--I would recommend going back to Folder Options>View and marking "Do not show hidden files" and "Hide system Files". It is safer and less confusing that way. It is up to you if you want to "Hide extensions for known filetypes", I prefer to leave them showing but that is a matter of choice--not safety.
