    Hi Guys

I am a bit of a noob and hope you can help.
Right here is my issue. I have a 13 month old Hp Pavilion DV2-1030ea Notebook. Im running Windows 7 32 bit, with an AMD Athlon Neo Processor MV-40 1.60 GHz, Level 2 cache 512 KB, 12.1 Diagonal WXGA High-Definition HP LED BrightView Widescreen Display, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3410 with
Up to 1278 MB total graphics memory with 512 MB dedicated.

About three weeks ago, one week after warranty ended, the screen colours changed, everything developed a red hue. Panicking I immediately reformatted my laptop, and the problem disappeared.

One week later it came back intermittently, and now its become a permanent issue. Blacks have been replaced by reds. The initial BIOS screen is bright red instead of black. There are no lines on the screen, but all blacks are replaced by reds. Incredibly worrying and makes doing anything other than use word very tough. HP support were shocking, said it required a whole new screen :cry, but I can't see any cracks or damage.

I am always cautious with the machine and have never dropped or knocked it. I wondered if it could be a CCFL backlight defect?

    Please Help.
    Cheers

    James

    Sorry should also say:

Drivers are up to date. Nothing to roll back to as its been the same version since october 2009. When I plug it into an external monitor the picture is back to normal.

Well my friend, at least you know it is not the gpu chip. However, when it comes to the screen itself, unless you know a qualified technician that can repair that screen, and considering the labor charges for the repair, you may as well just replace it and get it over with. IMHO.

Crap. Thanks for the advice :). I'm opening a dispute with Amazon through trading standards, hopefully I can get them to cover the repairs or replacement. TS reckon the laptop isnt fit for purpose if it broke after 12 months and 1 week, most legal cases in consumer favour. Given I paid £500 for the machine think I will see what comes out of the dispute before I shell out for a new machine. Cheers

Well, at least the machine it self does still work, I am going to assume that you live in the UK since you paid for it in pounds. I took a quick look on ebay and the average price for a replacement screen was around $75-125. Good luck with Amazon, you never now, you might get lucky :wine cheers.
