:( I formatted my Hard Drive and then installed Windows ME and now i can ONLY display 16 colours. I used the Aida program to see what driver i need but all it told me was that i have a standard display adapter. How can i get my graphics back to 256 colours? I do not know the manufacturer of my video card and looked inside my system and still could not find it. Could someone help me, thank you. Michael

Your Bios and/or boot up screen may tell you.

You can also look for any numbers written on the card itself and do a Google.

Also, most equipment has an FCC ID number which you can do a search on HERE.

You told me to look in the BIOS. When i get there, what do i change that could get more colours? I have the correct display adapter installed and it still only has 16 colours. Thanks.

I never said to change anything in the Bios, just look at the information as that should tell you the exact video card installed, meaning you can then look for an appropriate driver.

The driver is what controls what colours are displayed and the resolution used.

Windows only installs basic, generic drivers. Enough to make the system operable, but you still need the relevant driver for full function of the hardware in question.

In some older Bioses you can play around with the colour settings, but I very much doubt that is your problem.

Try downloading a program called Everest which tells you information about every bit of your system. This should be able to point you in the direction of the latest drivers. You could also try rebooting you pc and looking on the very initial screen which appears before the processor and memory screen which comes up. Should tell you what card you have in the top left corner. (PS Everest is in the system info heading to the left on the main page)
