Display problems

    Hi everybody,

My screen display is acting up. For the past couple days, the right side of the screen is kind of compressed. It's not a huge problem as it's really only the far right of the screen, but it's still annoying. Also, which might be related, is on Amazon the far right of the screen is blank, which it hasn't done before, so I'm thinking it might possibly be a related issue.

The weird thing is, is I took a screenshot of the screen itself, and in the screenshot, the display looks normal! I've included a screenshot of the Amazon page to illustrate the blankness, but I don't know what the deal is with the compression not showing up on a screenshot.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

You have checked your monitor settings and degaussed?

Yes, and the blank right side thing I think only happens on Amazon, so that's probably a display setting thing, since I use 800x600 and sometimes things don't display right.

The compression thing is weird though. Don't know what's causing that. What's weirder is that it doesn't show up on a screenshot. Thanks for the reply.

Is this a CRT monitor? Or flat panel?

Have you tried a different browser?
Not saying it's not your setting etc but if you try it in a different browser and it doesn't happen then at least you've narrowed it down to IE. I know from web designing that sometimes certain page sizes and settings will work perfectly on some browsers and not others. When I used to do that I used to have to test all adjustments in IE, AOL, Firefow and Netscape and frequently IE (especially IE6) would display differently.

If Amazon has the pages set up for a different resolution than 800 x 600 there isn't anything you can do about it. Things will get cut off.

I will go to Amazon later when I set my screen resolution to 800 x 600 and see if I notice the same thing in linux using FF 2.0.0.14

It's not just the Amazon thing, and now that I think about it Amazon might have been a red herring since it doesn't happen on other sites. I was just thinking since both of them happen on the right side and I noticed both of them happen within a few days they might have something to do with the other, but now that I think about it I kind of doubt they're related. I've had problems with various stuff at 800x600 before too.(I'm looking at you, Yahoo mail/groups!)

But it's really not that that's the main problem I'm trying to figure out. The main question was about the squishiness. Now that I look at it, it's not even really on webpages, just the outer border of IE7, ie the minimize/maximize/close buttons and the taskbar areas. It's like you're looking at them through a magnifying glass. The screen is normal on the left, then the further right you go it starts to compress. And like I say, I've tried to screenshot it, but it looks normal in the ss!
-Edit: It does happen on webpages as well. When I scroll left to right, if the text goes really far towards the right, it will kind of scrunch up the further right it goes. Def. hardware issue. Affects both firefox and IE.

It is a CRT though, and def. looks like something that would happen in a CRT. My computer speakers are shielded, plus they're on both sides of the screen so that could be it, but it seems a little weird that it wouldn't happen on both sides.

It's not really that big a deal, just kind of weird looking and makes you feel like you're wearing glasses or something. Anyone got a cheap LCD?:p

Thanks for all the replies too!
