    Here's My Gear:
    Win XP Pro
    3G RAM
    Gigabyte 946GMX-S2
    Asus Nvidia EN8600GT
    Intel C2D E4500
    Direct X 9.0c

    Here's my problem:
So I got home tonight, PC was powered off, correctly I'm Assured, and "to save energy" my house mate also turned the power off at the wall. Powered the PC back up and the problems start.

PC started fine but when OS loaded up, the color was down at 800x600p 4 bit color and it is not changeable through display properties. Also had an error ballon for ashdDisp.exe saying that msvcr71.dll was missing. I reset the PC hoping it would fix itself and along with the first error I also had a new one :MarkFun_Load_NT_Driver.

So I found out that ashDisp.exe is part of my Avast Anti-virus software and it won't do a thing at all. Won't run, won't uninstall. So I download the missing .dll file and put it back into the system32 folder. Reset and both eror messages have ceased and the display is still retarded.

Tried some different things. PLugged monitor into the onboard port with and without the VGA Card in, tried a different monitor, tried manually adjusting the display properties which won't work. I did notice that the Nvidia tab is no longer in the display properties though.

I checked dxdiag which says that Direct3D acceleration is not available. Direct Draw and AGP Texture acceleration are both enabled. I'm about to update the VGA card's driver. I'll let you know if it works but thought I'd ask for other ideas if you guys have any. Thanks

Edit: Just noticed in the device manager under "Asus Other Devices" the "Enhanced Display Driver Helper Service" has the old "!" on it. this is what it says :

Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19). How can this be fixed???

sorry to bother you guys about this. I managed to fix the problem.

I uninstalled the Enhanced Display Driver Helper Service and updated the Nvidia driver and all has returned to normal again.

    Thanks anyway
