Display Quality on Plasma Screen

    I built a home theatre PC and have it connected to my 42" Panasonic Plasma screen via s-video. It is working really well.

    I was thinking that the picture quality would improve by connecting via a DVI/HDMI cable. I bought the cable and gave it a try but the picture quality is terrible.

    Is it something I'm doing wrong or is this just the wrong way to connect the two devices?
