display settings

I did a clean install of Win98 and Win98 Plus on a machine.
All is ok except the display settings.
It only goes to 800 x 600. With 16 bit color.
Do I need to update a driver and if so which one?

 

I will download Everest to put on other pc and try it. Thanks for the info

 

No Compaq. It is a home made pc

 

I go to put Everest in the machine and now the cd rom wont work. I made a cd with some utilites etc. to add to the machine and it says cd rom isnt ready, try again or cancel. HELP!!

 

Duh!! I burned the cd wrong.
I tried Everest and dont see any graphics card listed on the pc.
What am I missing?

 

Go to the windows update site and run the search and it should show some updates for your graphics driver. Other than that, your graphics card should have come with a cd that had a bunch of programs on it and one of those programs is the driver. Run the setup for your graphics card from the cd. If not find out which graphics card you have and then do a search for the that card's driver under google. Or, search for a good site that should have the drivers on it. Then download the driver and run it.
