hello guys I need some help diagnosing a problem on my notebooks display. 3 weeks ago, my laptop loss good display. it only shows a crappy lines sometimes only a blue or grey and white all over the screen. But the thing is when i re start it it boots up and loads windows succesfully. so I decided not to touch it. 2 weeks after I opened it again and wallah it got display again and it works just fine till now but the problem is, on the desktop icons, the shortcut arrows below them doesnt appear.

So my question is , is it possible that my video card is damage, or not working properly? Or is there another faulty hardware.
any advice or diagnostics is high be appreciated.
hope for your help guys.MORE POWER.

teres one other thing I need to add. the shortcut arrow below the desktop icons appears to be a black square. and sometimes just now the display just flicker again with just bars and horizontal and sometimes vertical colored ones. but it went back up but first the other half is ok and the other half seem like to be stretch before it comes back in clear normal view. My notebook by the way is a dell latitude c600. the only thing change is the cd-rom drive to a dvd rom. thats it i just thought it might help us a bit in diagnostics. tnx all the best

Yes sounds like a hardware fault.

The fault is most likely a pinched or loose connector ribbon to the display in the lid. It's also possible that the display electronics is dying.
Luckily for you, the graphics subsystem itself is the least likely culprit.

Fixing laptop graphics is not for the faint hearted, although it is fairly easy to take the keyboard out and check the screen connecting cables.

Does this laptop have a VGA ouput and does the problem occur if hooked up to a normal monitor?

That's software related. I saw that problem somewhere. Unfortunately, I don't remember where or what program was uninstalled to gain back the arrows for shortcuts.
