    Hi,

Probably simple for a true geek;)

I recently replaced the old laptop. That ran XP and Outlook 2000.

New laptop runs Vista with Windows mail 6 (copyright 2006). I would use outlook (since it has a UK English spell check etc) but I'd have to buy that seperately.

Got them both on the same home/business network - laptops have different names but I just used one mail address. I was gradually transferring the stuff I needed over so all the junk didn't clutter up the new laptop.

For a few days all was well - then suddenly the old laptop said the destination for mail had changed for this user. The inbox and all my folders have dissapeared. I checked on threads on MajorGeeks and found the destination for the .PST files (/windows/outlook). This appears to be empty.

The files have got to be there (I know they were on the hard drive because I could access them offline), I just can't find them.

I'd really appreciate any help because, as will be obvious, I'm no Geek and easily confused:confused

    Thanks in anticipation.

    Kim

just do a search for them by file type using: *PST

    Thanks Serious Sam,

You're right, I found a .pst file that way (once I'd set it to find hidden files). It was in the administrator folder rather than my user folder.

Trouble is, it doesn't seem to be the messages. It is only 48Kb, and as there's about 1000 messages, some with attachments etc. it doesn't look big enough. I tried opening it anyway, followed through the MS information on copying old account information. I even downloaded an Outlook 2007 trial to make sure I was using a compatible system. When I opened the file, nothing shows up. It doesn't even seem to be contacts since nothing comes into that area either - I did move the contacts over to windows mail early on as a CSV file so I've got those, it is the messages that seem to have vanished.
