Hi guys, first of all, cheers for all your help on this site, its awesome! I seem to spend half my lofe asking you guys questions, dont know what I'd do without ya!

Ok, I have a wireless network running in my home, i have a Netgear dg834gt router then a netgear pcimcia card (i forget which one) in my laptop (which works fine all over the house all the time), then I have a 54mbps wireless lan adaptor pci card in my destop (dont know who makes it, theres no details anywhere?!?!). The desktop is litterally the other side of a wall (solid not plaster) to the router but the signal is very unreliable. Sometimes it is fine all day, other times it comes and goes from nothing to full many times in minutes.

Like I say, the laptop doesnt show these tendabcies anywhere in the house which makes me think its a compatibility error or a conflict or something in the desktop.

I'm running an amd 2.6 on a jetway MB (with latest bios), windows xp sp2.

device manager doesn't say there are conflicts.

Could something be interfering with the pci card, it was pretty cheap!? Theres nothing in the room with the desktop and the only thing near the router is a telephone and a boiler....

Any ideas why I keep loosing signal?

    Cheers MG's,

excellent stuff!! You have opened my eyes to how my wireless should be set up. I never even thought about the placement of the antennas, I currently have the router tucked underneath a corner cupboard and the destop one is inside a unit shoved in a corner! What a dumbass! That'll probably be why the xbox link is very unreliable as well! And theres me blaming the kit.
    Cheers Mate, greatly appreciated!

ok, further problems... I have now moved my kit around and have a strong signal throughout the house, cheers for the help. However, it would appear that that was not the only problem with the connection. Now, the internet connection (only on the one machine) dies after random periods of time. The LAN is still up and running but I cant get any internet over it. Any ideas what might cause this? I have to reboot the machine to get the connection back....

    Cheers
