Distorted Sounds

I keep having a problem with Distorted Sounds in Windows XP SP2. Everytime I boot up, the Startup sound for Windows XP, sounds distorted and skips while it is trying to play it, it plays some but skips other parts while trying to still play.

I have also noticed this problem with videos online too. It starts off distorted then sounds alright after awhile.

Does anyone know how to fix this? Its been doing this for weeks now and nothing I have tried to do has helped. I have reformatted, used System Restore and checked the Hardware in the Control Panel for problems but it has none.

 

I am assuming that it dosen't do this ALL the time?

If not, and it only happens on certain things (i.e. Video's, WMA's, etc.) It very well could be the software for your audio card in need of an update, or an updated driver. Also, pay close attention to the codecs in which the audio distorts, if it only happens on videos with high quality audio, maybe you have a problem with the audio card and it cannot handle anything to high-quality.


If so (happens all the time):
It is more than likely a hardware problem, could very well be a small grouping of bad resistors in your speakers, or even a bad connection. I would suggest plugging your speakers into another computer and testing to see if you have the same output. If not, it could be your audio card, if your audio is on board, you may need to consult your motherboard manufacturer. If it is a card and you have a spare audio card lying around, plug that sucker in. Hope you find a solution.
