DitDefender leftovers - safe to delete?

I uninstalled BitDefender from an XP Pro system a few weeks ago but I have noticed that there are leftovers in Device Manager > Network adapters.

The normal view lists:

BitBefender Firewall NDIS Filter Miniport, which is flagged with an exclamation mark on a yellow background.

Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet (no flag).

Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet - BitDefender Firewall NDIS Filter Miniport, flagged as above.

WAN Miniport (IP) - BitDefender Firewall NDIS Filter Miniport, flagged as above.



Showing hidden devices additionally lists these, none of which are flagged:

Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet - Packet Scheduler Miniport

Direct Parallel

Wan Miniport (IP)

Wan Miniport (IP) - Packet Scheduler Miniport

Wan Miniport (L2TP)

Wan Miniport (PPPOE)

Wan Miniport (PPTP)



Is it safe, or even advisable, to delete these items?

 

Since you uninstalled BitDefender, you don't need the drivers that are showing in Device Manager. Right click on them and choose uninstall. If you install another firewall, BitDefender may interfere.

Does it mean that there may still be other BitDefender leftovers on the system?

I have done a search for BitDefender but nothing is shown, not even those which appear in Network adapters.

 

There shouldn't be any leftovers other than what you found. But, what you found may interfere with another firewall. All traces of a firewall or Antivirus should be removed before installing a new one so that there are no conflicts with or effectiveness of the new software.
