Hello, all. I'm looking for an open source app to help me fix a dll error that pops up upon boot up. I have corrected several previously by swapping or copying from one machine, renaming and then pasting from a flash drive to another machine but this one eludes me. (ahusawno.dll ) Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I would almost guarantee that the file you mentioned ahusawno.dll is malware. It definitely is not a Windows file of any type. I did a Google search for it got ZERO results. So, it is probably one of those viruses that generates a random string of letters, making it harder for security tools to define. Promptly scan it, or even save it to a floppy or flash drive temporarily, then delete it (or rename it to something like "ahusawno.dll.malware"). If the PC needs it for normal operation, you can move it back (or rename it).

EDIT- if you do decide to scan it, and it comes up as malware, I'd strongly recommend a visit to the MajorGeeks malware forum after reading this http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=35407 At the very least, run some complete system scans with your favorite antivirus/antispyware applications.

All scans I run show nothing amiss yet this pop up--(RUNDLL Error loading C:\windows\system32\ahusawno.dll -- The specified module can not be found.) When traced backed to this directory there is no file or folder of this name or title there. I too googled it and came up empty.

That's actually a good thing! It means that the file is not on the PC, but on the other hand, it's "parent process" is still there looking for it. Click Start > Run and type msconfig and press Enter. Click the Start Up tab and look for any references to the .dll file. Then go into the registry (click Start > Run and type regedit and press Enter) and search for it. When the registry editor opens, highlight My Computer, then click Edit > Find and type ahusawno.dll into the 'Find what:' box and click the Find button. Press F3 to continue searching after an entry is found. When an entry is found, you can do a few different things: modify the key by removing the .dll file from the key, delete the key, record the key for later editing, etc. Just be sure you make a back up of any keys BEFORE changing the data (or back up the entire registry first). You may unintentionally do more damage than good, so making back ups is a good idea. Setting a system restore point before changing the registry is also a good idea. For more info about the registry, backing it up and restoring it from a back up if needed, check this out: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322756/en-us

Ahhhhhhhh--got it! I had already found it and disabled it in the start up menu but knew I needed to dump it from the registry as well. I just didn't know how until you told me! I deleted the .dll , rebooted and everything works beautifully. I made a restore point as well. You guys are awesome as is this forum! Thanks again! Jack
