Hey guys, I have a friend who is looking to get a projector for his Xbox. He’s deciding between a DLP and an LCD projector. I hear DLP technology is far superior because among other reasons, the picture quality lasts much longer than that of an LCD projector. What do you guys think of DLP projectors?

Yes the picture quality can be superior, from a reputable make of DLP projector. DLP (digital light processor) was originally developed by Texas Instruments but individual manufacturers are responsible for the supporting electronics and optical systems. Both can make or mar a projector.

One thing with a DLP they are dimmer for a given light output so allow up to 50% greater spec.

Having run both for 10 years or more now, I have not noticed any greater longevity of one or other variety. It really depends upon how they are treated by the user.

Check also the cost of replacement bulbs - some are horrendously expensive.
