    hi,

i am having a slight problem with my internet connection/viewing web pages,
when i switch my pc on and boot into w2k, click on the internet (either ie6 or ff) i get a dns - cannot find server error page,
if i try to update a program (eg avg) it says 'server not found'
when i can connect and browse, every other page is 'cannot view.....,
(all this doesn't happen all the time, but its becoming more frequent)

i have a vm on my w2k which is ok

if i boot into linux (i dual boot) there are no problems at all

i have an xp machine thats ok as well,

i have reset my internet security, used ipconfig /flushdns, uninstalled my firewall, used static and auto-detect dns all to no avail,

i connect via cable to a wireless router set to 128 bit wep,
the xp machine connects wirelesly to the router (the card can only use wep)

if i have the encription dissabled on the router all is ok

anyone any ideas how i can fix this ?

    hi,

    an update on this problem,

due to a possable failing disk, i decided to install a new disk and start w2k from 'new', everything is as it should be apart from i am still getting the dns errors, this is from a clean install on a new disk,
all my service packs are up to date and i have repaired ie6 and uninstalled then reinstalled,
the only difference is that now my programs can access the internet (apart from ie6 and ff),
as i have stated my dual-boot linux is ok and xp is ok,

so i am looking for any ideas again

    thanks

    hi,

    update number 2

i seem to have resolved this issue,

i have changed my static dns addresses in my router which so far has worked,
at least i have had no dns - cannot find server errors in the last couple of days:celebrate
