DNS Client service and Opera page load problem

I've been having a problem with Opera browser not fully loading pages.
    Current installed ver. is 10.54.
This happened with some earlier versions, but I don't know exactly when this
    problem began.

In the address bar, it shows that all of the page elements have loaded except
    the last one
, at which point it just hangs. Pressing Escape cancels the
remaining download, but sometimes that results in much of the page not being
    displayed.

There are several threads in the Opera forums about this with several solutions
offered. One solution is to change the DNS Client service to Manual instead of
the default Automatic. This solution seems to be working.
    However, I'm wondering:
What are the (possible) negative consequences of setting the DNS Client
    service to Manual?

It seems that the HOSTS file may be causing some problems.
I have been using MVPS HOSTS file and I have installed the latest version (June 03, 2010).
An Editors Note on that page suggests setting the DNS Client to manual to speed up the machines response.

    Another suggestion at
    Black Viper's BBS
    is to use
    HostsOptimizer
to reduce the size of the HOSTS files and keep the DNS
    Client service enabled (Automatic).

    Any suggestions or comments?
    Thanks!

Frequently, Opera(most any version) has done similar to me. The entire page seems to load except for one(varying) element where it hangs. The page seems to be loaded but the statbar says "waiting".

Currently using v10.60. The HOSTS file is pretty small(2KB), don't use it to block much and I have the DNS Client service enabled and set to Automatic.
Same here but the entire page is always displayed.

    Thanks.

There have been situations where most of the page is Not displayed.
This happened most recently at FileHippo

I haven't noticed this happening in Firefox (3.6.6).

If I follow that link, the entire page is displayed but the statbar says "Waiting (#6) for connection to cache filehippo.com (127.0.0.1)". It's also showing "Elements 22/28" loaded. After a couple of minutes the statbar indicates it finally loaded everything.

Nope, haven't had it happen in Fx either.

It seems that I have just found a solution for this problem.

I just signed up for OpenDNS Basic which is a free service. I have seen in some posts where MG members use this as part of their security setup.

    Wow, what a difference!! :)
Now pages load more quickly and completely.
No more hanging on the last page element.

I'm currently using Opera 10.62 on Win XP sp3.

I also used SpeedGuide.net TCP Optimizer to optimize settings prior to signing up for OpenDNS,
although I have an older version installed.

It looks as though I am finally getting the throughput I expected with this DSL service.

Happy camper again (so far). ;)
