    Hi.

I may have a DNS problem. TimW told me that I should type 74.125.95.103 in my address bar. If it takes me to Google, then he said I have a DNS problem. It took me to Google.

I have a wireless router from d-link model DI-524. I'm with Time Warner Cable. I'm not sure what other information is required to help with my problem.

Please note, I have a very minimal understanding about networking.

    Thanks for any help.

Because you had very little info in your networking log, I would suggest that you first check your settings.

Go to start / run / type:
    cmd

Once the command prompt opens, type:
    ipconfig /all

    Then type:
    Within the prompt, type:
    ipconfig /flushdns.

To close the prompt, type exit.

    Post the results.

    TimW,

Did you want me to copy and paste everything that showed up after the ipconfig/all step? Any information I shouldn't put up to protect personal information?

    Thanks.

There is no personal info that could be compromised by your ipconfig. ;)

sorry speigel... I am interested in the questions and answer to learn more for myself... i do not have ill intensions when i posted 'watching'... some forums allow users to 'watch' with a special button in the forum post, this is a forum that does not have a button, sort of like the quote button, to be able to quickly subscribe to a particular thread. I hope this is what you are referring to?

I think the problem could be this:>
    Primary WINS Server . . . . . . . : 129.98.225.40

Double click My Network and then View network connections. Right click your wireless connection. Choose properties then click the advanced tab. Under WINS, remove that setting and click the button for default. Tell me if that works.

I would also like to know if you can connect with a hard wired connection to your router/modem.

    TimW,

After clicking the advance tab, I don't see anything about WINS. Is it a tab or something?

I am thinking it is the TCP/IP Properties that is what is needed from the Wireless Properties from the network connections. The advanced tab from the Wireless properties will show something of the Windows Firewall. At the General Tab on the Wireless Properties you can see services, one of which is TCP/IP. Highlight it by single clicking and then click the Properties button underneath and to the right, next to 'install', 'uninstall', and then 'properties'. The new dialog box is called, in the title bar, Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties. Stay with the General tab and click advanced at the bottom, this is where you will finally see the WINS tab.

Now follow what TimW has said already...

No, not necessarily. The IP address is intended to work regardless of the Domain name being used for the ip address or using the ip address alone. So no, unless you are having difficulty with words being translated into IP addressses... you are not having an issue and the computer is going when and where it needs too. :cool

I deleted the WINS address. I can't connect with a hard wired connection.

Anything else for me to do?

Can you repost the ipconfig /all information as you had before?

The information is the same except there is no WINS line with the 129....

Also, I was mistaken: I can connect through a hard wired connection.

I'm still having the same problem. My modem and wireless router is working, and my laptop is telling me that I am connected, but the page doesn't load. To let you know, the internet was working a little bit when I had the WINS in.

Have you considered reinstalling you OS? Looks like you had a nasty time and all the problems were not cared for. If the computer is torn up it may never run correctly. Do you have things backed up just in case? It would give you a new and fresh start, I by no means am trying to sway your decision.

As for the WINS and Internet connection, I am lost and would like to follow your thread further. Thanks.
