I have a DNS server installed on my 192.168.1.x subnet and also have another subnet 192.168.2.x, which I use for my wireless router. The wireless router is connected to the wired router which acts as my Internet getway. I cannot get hosts on the 2.x subnet to authenticate the the DNS server. Is there some DNS record I must create, or something else I must configure in DNS in order for the wireless router's subnet to be recognized?

Based on the information, can we assume that the router is routing traffic between the two subnets? 198.168.1.x and 192.168.2.x? Can you ping across subnets?

There is nothing you need to configure on your DNS box. Figure it this way, we use exernal DNS servers all the time and they don't know our IP subnets.

What you should look at doing is to make sure that the clients on the 192.168.2.x subnet are configured to use the DNS IP on the 192.168.1.x subnet. This way they will go to that DNS server regardless of the subnet "as long as there is connectivity between the 2 subnets." You may need to manually confgure them which will over ride any automatic settings they recieve.

    Hope this helps.

A basic rule to remember is routers define networks. So you have 2 different networks and you want to use the DNS on the first 'wired' router. The wireless should be pointing to the first router as its gateway & DNS. This way all DNS request are forwarded to the wired router and handled. I had a simular setup with a barricade router behind a linksys (long story) But as far as "authinicating" what do you mean? you want the two networks to be browsable so PCs on 1.x can see 2.x.. I don't understand how you want the wireless subnet "recognized".
    more info plz..

I'm running a domain controller with Active Directory on the 192.168.1.x subnet, which those hosts on the 192.168.2.x subnet cannot communicate with (or vice versa). In other words, there is no downstream communication from the server on the 1.x subnet to the hosts on the 2.x subnet (wireless router), but there is upstrem communication from these hosts to the domain controller on the 1.x subnet.

Thanks for everyone;s help so far. Also, I think this link may be the answer, but I'm not sure: http://forums.practicallynetworked.com/archive/index.php/t-467.html
