    Hi,

I have a netgear wireless router with cable modem and one of my laptops has stopped connecting. My other one is fine. the problem just happened with no warning and it is dns server not responding. I've tried all the solutions in other threads here and no luck. I've tried resetting, unplugging, cmd resetting, restarting, static dns, auto dns, everything i can think of including copying the dns details of the working laptop etc. Please help!

    Thanks

    Craig

    ps.
ipconfig on problem laptop just says all media is disconnected.

Looked for solutions for this and came up with 2 possibilities, the first of which you may have done.

This issue can occur by incorrect DNS settings. I suggest you perform the following steps to troubleshoot the issue.

    1. Click "Start", input "NCPA.CPL" (without quotation marks) and press Enter.

    2. Right click on the connection that you use for the local connection, and then click "Properties".

    3. Click to select "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)", and then click "Properties".

    4. In the Internet Protocol window, let's change the "Preferred DNS server" to 208.67.222.222

    5. Click 'OK' twice to complete the modification.

If the issue persists, please repeat the steps and change the "Preferred DNS server" to 208.67.220.220.

Kept noticing two wireless connections in my network settings. "Wireless Network Connection" is my normal wireless connection and was connecting fine. The second was "Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter" and was showing disconnected (as I expected). But, I couldn't figure out where that second connection came from, so finally, I disabled it. As soon as I did, my DNS sprang to life!

Thanks for that but unfortunately neither of these work for me.

I still get DNS server not responding or IP not configured correctly.

    Please help!

    Thanks.

Can you ping from one computer to the other? Is the mac filtered on the router? Are you using static IP's or DHCP?

I don't think your problem is the actual DNS server.

Can you set all of your IP settings to static on the windows7 machine and make sure the mac is not filtered or blocked on the router? Try to ping the IP of the other computer, if successful, try to ping the IP of the router, if successful try to ping 4.2.2.2.

Thanks handygirl but the problem machine cannot ping anywhere (request timed out). My working laptop can ping the problem one but it says destination host unreachable. I had been using dynamic ips but it doesn't make any difference when I use static ones either. Still just says DNS server not responding.

    Any other ideas?

    :(

What do you get if you plug the laptop into the wireless router with an ethernet cable?
