Do DVD+R disks burn deeper than DVD -Rs?

I was told that many DVD-r disks do not take a deep burn and can "die" (ie: give a copy that will no longer read all the way through) fairly easily.
To prevent this, the same person said, buy DVD+r disks, then change the bit to DVD-rom (using the utilities that come with the burning drive) and, when you make a copy, you will get a deeper burn that will give you a copy that will live much longer.
Is this true? If so, WHY?
    tnx

I do not know nor care so much about which one 'burns deeper' (if that is really the case). There aren't a whole lot of differences between the 2 formats.
Generally, DVD+R media produces better 'writes' and also the burn process is slightly faster than using a DVD-R. DVD-R is more competable with DVD players though I didn't have any problems playing either + or - format in my 5 year old Fisher DVD player.
DVD-R is widely available, more produced than of DVD+R format so generally they tend to sell for a little less but I sitck with DVD+R which works great and is a newer technology anyhow.
As far as which format really last longer, even if that was the case who could proove it at this time? Would the difference be worthy of notice?
There are a lot of misleading info going around, do your search on reputable sites (or books) if you care to know more but I think if you buy good quality media that is also compatible with your burner and home DVD player then you are OK! ;)
