Do I have a sound card...?

Hey all.
I'm trying to sort out my pops pc for him which he got from his work.
Its a dell. Not sure which one. But doesn't appear to have a sound card..
However, on the back of the unit the thre colored plugs for the mic and speakers etc are there which made me think there might
be a sound card already on the mother board.
however windows says there isnt one installed.
is there any way I can find out if the machine does have a sound card on the motherboard and if so how I might ge about installing it?

If there are the ports on the back of the PC then there should be on board sound. If windows isnt finding them then more than likely you need to download the drivers for the audio chipset. Having the model number of the dell would help greatly. You should then be able to run a search for that model and find the drivers that you need

 

Great. sounds good but how would I know the model of the dell?

Down the side of the tower It says model number DHM

I will have a try and find drivers for that online.
If thats not the actual model number please lket me know

Normally the Model number is somthing along the lines of GX150, or Dell Dimension 8250 Series... something of the sort. If I remember correctly alot of PC manufactures used to put a sticker, generally on the rear or side of the case with the model and serial number

 

I'm pretty sure if you download and run Belarc advisor it will list your sound card/chip even if it isn't installed. Then look for the drivers.

Also try right-clicking my computer and selecting properties, the Dell model number should show up under the version of windows.
