Do I Need A Cleaning System On My Windows 10 ?

I have a new desktop computer, and computer tech that hooked it up told me since it already had protection on it, I wouldn't need to download any cleaners (like CCleaner, etc). Is that true ? Occasionally the computer doesn't work as quickly as usual. Makes me think I need some kind of cleaner that will clean up junk files. What is your opinion ? I have Microsoft 365 on the computer.
In the past I put CCleaner on it, but after it scanned I was annoyed that it reduced the size of all photos I had saved in 'Pictures'. They were the largest size they could be, but after running cleaner, they all got real small even though it claimed to still be on the largest size.

Try Argente Disk Cleaner 3.0 and Argente Registry Cleaner 4.0... the best for your system ;)

I've neither downloaded nor installed any of the so-called "cleaning" apps on my computers, and I've been running PCs for 45 years without them.

IMHO they are nothing but a waste of money. They exist for those who think they can buy protection from anything and everything that floats their way, be it computers in specific or life in general.

Your experience with CCleaner should tell you something. I would just go with (and I do go with) whatever protection Windows 10 has.

    Just sayin'.

Cleaning apps do not provide "protection", at least not generally: they are maintenance, not prophylaxis.

For a cleaning app, I recommend Glary Utilities (https://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/glary_utilities.html). The free version is effective, gets high ratings at MG, and I've been using it for years. There are others, though, such as the programs from Wise and IObit. Try them, and find what suits you.

Just be smart, though, and due your due diligence: backup your registry and/or make restore points before any major change.

There is not an OS (yet) called 365, so you have Windows something 10, 11. 365 refers to the office suite as a service.
Anyway enough picking, if you trust Microsoft

Cleaning programs (as others said) don't protect the computer, they supposed keep it running good (proof needed).
Windows comes with Windows Defender, and that is good enough "antivirus" for most.
