"A little knowledge is a dangerous thing!"

This is long so hang in there.

It all started when I opened a site sent thru IM. I know better, but too late now.
Then I started having pop ups all over the place. I tried to uninstall it, started clicking on stuff. And got to a point where the pop ups were more or less gone, but Adobe Reader was trying to open everytime I doing.... calendar, word, attachments thru the email.

I got so frustrated I uninstalled Reader, and Acrobat. Now I can't open any attachments. I have to right clip to open calculater, word. I still can't open add/remove icon(says system32/rundll32.exe. system not found)

I tried loading Reader, but it can't find a program to go to. My restore on the computer was not turned on, so can't go that way.

My computer is 2 yrs old, so no free help. Acrobat costs hundreds of $$ to install.

I want to make sure if I buy Acrobat, that is what is wrong.

    HELP PLEASE.

    Thanks

You have contracted a virus or bad spyware which you will need to get rid of before loading acrobat reader. They often use acrobat reader in their evil plot - hence your problems. If you don't have any antivirus or anti-spyware installed, you can download free ones from avg OR Clamav, and free antispyware from tenebril and adaware. You will need to remotely scan the computer for a virus first, as it will be able to corrupt a downloaded antivirus program.

once all that is done you can download acrobat reader for free or other programs that will read .pdf files - like open office.

In that you apparently had a malware attack of some sort, go to this link and read and follow all the instructions, http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=35407. Just curious as to whether you used Adobe Acrobat to create PDF documents or not, as it is an expensive program. There are freeware alternatives on this site that do the same. Hope this helps!:)

I cannot open add/remove program icon. It says system32/rundll32.exe application not found.

So I can't do get to the 1st step of uninstall malware.

Is there another way to get to it?

Also I did use Acrobat for pdf documents. Could you lead me to the alternatives on this site?

    Thanks

Well, I tried to download Ccleaner, and the program list came up, asking where to put it. I have no clue which one to pick.

Any help, or is it time for a professional?

    Thanks all

Normally it gives you a list of options if you load it in "MY DOCUMENTS" you will be able to install it from there.

when it asks where! just click your mouse over MY DOCUMENTS it should turn blue then click OK and it can be run from there

You really need to go to the Malware forum and fix your problem first. I am not a Pro. but I do know Ccleaner is not going to get you anywhere without addressing the Malware you have picked up. It is Sunday as well as a Holiday weekend so you may have give the Techs a bit to catch your post. Open the READ AND RUN ME FIRST thread to get started.

    @evilfantasy,

If you tried the link in my first reply to this post, then you would see that it has already been suggested, and that CCleaner is one of the apps that chaslang mentions for downloading.:major

Understood. But since it is still being discussed here I tend to believe there is more being put into getting Adobe to run then actually fixing the problem.

Well I tried again to download Ccleaner, and my computer pulled up a list of where I wanted to open this up.... and my documents is not listed.

Have I deleted where this, and other programs I have tried to down load are suppose to open?

I think I have done some serious stuff to my computer! Thus the reason for the title of the thread.

I am in no hurry to fix this, as I have access to other computers for at least a month. So I will be patient, and wait.

    Thanks all

Honestly, post your problem in the correct forum or you are not going to get far. Not to mention not getting your programs back!
