Hi, I have Windows XP on a PC desk top. Also I have itunes and I listen to music and watching videos, but I play no computer games at all and don't need any software for playing any computer games. Do I need any of this stuff on my add/remove list?

3ivx (is this what Windows uses to consolidate files or is this some extra thing I once downloaded and never used?)

Adobe Air (I have Adobe Reader but what is Adobe Air?)

    Adobe Download Manager

    Adobe Flash Player 11 Activex

    Adobe Flash Player 11 Plugin

    Adobe Shockwave Player

    Apple Application Support

    Apple Mobile Device Support

    Apple Software Update

    Athlon 64 Processor Driver

    Bonjour

    Broadcom 440x 10/100 Integrated Controller

    QuickTime

    SigmaTel Audio

    Thanks in advance,

    Tink

Yes. Most of it is needed.

About the only item I'm positive you can remove is the Shockwave player. Never installed it on this XP computer I'm currently on and nothing has complained.

I don't have Adobe Reader installed so I'm not sure it AIR is needed. I had it on briefly on an XP computer when I read PCMag thru the Zino Reader. I've since dumped PCMag and Adobe AIR.
Try removing it and see if anything complains.
I'm also not sure about the Adobe Download Manager either. Maybe Reader needs it.

Adobe Flash Player 11 Activex and Adobe Flash Player 11 Plugin are needed to see flash content in IE and other browsers. Make sure you keep them updated because flash gets hacked if it is not patched.

    Your i - anything needs:
    Apple Application Support
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Apple Software Update
    Bonjour
    QuickTime
Remove any of the above and you will break the computer i-anything link.
I have never used iTunes so all my computers are free of those 5 programs.

    Athlon 64 Processor Driver
    Broadcom 440x 10/100 Integrated Controller
    SigmaTel Audio
All of these are needed by your computer hardware.

Not sure where you are located but here in the UK Adobe Air is required to watch streaming TV on the BBC iPlayer, and possibly on other players too.

    THIS may help.

If you don't have any professional Adobe software, then you don't need the Adobe Download Manager.

If you don't have any AIR applications (like Adobe Download Manager), then you don't need Adobe AIR.

If you don't play any games, then you don't need Shockwave Player.

If you don't use QuickTime, then you can uninstall it, together with all the other Apple stuff.

pwillener, are you sure? This person uses iTunes. Removing Apple items will break iTunes.

I'd be a bit cautious about this. Any application that downloads stuff from the internet without opening a browser is probably using Adobe AIR to do so, but if you do not have anything like that then OK, remove it. But do check whatever you use, if anything, for streaming live or recorded TV.

TinkBelle - I should have explained that Adobe AIR does not get installed unless something else you have installed requires it. It doesn't just happen, so it's virtually certain that something on your computer, or that has been on your computer, requires or required it.

Agreed. It looks like you have an iphone or some sort of mobile apple device. If you do, I wouldn't uninstall any of your Apple stuff. They set it up so other things tend to stop working if you do.

    OK, thanks, guys!

I will try to remove Shockwave and perhaps Adobe Download Manager but not Air...what do you think?

PS I use Adobe Reader in order to read PDF files--is that right (is that what it's used for)?

Sorry for that; I didn't see the iTunes part - I just looked at the list of installed apps.

Sorry it's taken me a while to reply; I just started a new job last week.
Thanks again for all your help! And--3ivx? Is this what Windows uses to consolidate files or is this some extra thing I once downloaded and never used that I can remove?

You have to mention the path to where you see 3ivx and any extension behind it.
    Perhaps this? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3ivx
I don't think I'd remove any codecs. Your device might need that. You remove it and you break something.
