my computer is a compaq presario with xpsp3 and 256 ram.
i used driveimage xml to create a backup image of my hard drive C:. do i also need to make a backup of my hard drive D:? i thought the D drive was specifically to make a "one time" copy of recovery CDs, and once that is done (i've already made the recovery CDs), it is no longer of any use, and basically wasted space.

D isn't often an actual hard drive but some form of memory, depending on the machine, set aside. You do not need to backup your D drive. As far as I know... You can't. I haven't tried, but as far as I know, you can't. The D drive is often used as a lifesaver for computers. It often holds most of the most vital files needed to make your system usable, even after a catastrophic meltdown. Ok, maybe not that dramatic, but still the same concept.

    loki,
i need to look in the manual again, but i think it is data waiting to be put on disk for a one-time use only. it's funny, a thought could go with it, if you use the disks, does the computer return to a state where the disks can be made again, like system restore?
    thanks for the reply.

Recovery discs are just for your most vital files. They won't completely restore your PC like a Windows XP installation disk would. So, no, using the disks wouldn't let you use system restore unless they had the system restore program on them.
